BIOGRAPHY

Carrie Werner, Naturopathic Primary Care Physician

BA, Psychology; Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (USA)

Carrie is a highly qualified licensed naturopathic primary care physician from the United States.  These are well sought after practitioners and only a few practise as Naturopathic Physicians in Australia.  Carrie earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon, which is a government regulated and certified educational institution. The naturopathic doctorate degree entails, in addition to the standard medical curriculum, training in homeopathy, medicinal herbs, clinical nutrition, alternative lab testing, pharmacology, physical medicine, and hydrotherapy.  NCNM's Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine is a four-year full-time postgraduate program that trains holistic primary care physicians who are then required to take two sets of board exams in order to be licensed to practise.  Carrie received her practice license through the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Examiners (OBNE) in Oregon, USA.  She also received her bachelors degree in psychology with a concentration in premedical sciences from The George Washington University in Washington DC.  In addition to her degrees Carrie has completed advanced training in homeopathy, Core Synchronism (a combination of cranial osteopathy and polarity therapy), women's health and natural childbirth.

Carrie is a member of the National Herbalist Association of Australia (NHAA) and maintains licensing with the OBNE.  She is registered with most major health funds and her patients are eligible for private health insurance rebates on consultations.

PRACTISE

Areas of specialty and approach to treatment

As a Naturopathic Primary Care Physician, Carrie runs a general practice treating a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions and promoting preventative healthcare for the whole family.  She practices a patient-centered approach to medicine that deals with the primary prevention and underlying causes, instead of treating symptoms.  As a practitioner, Carrie's focus is on guiding the individual in achieving optimal health by gently assisting the body's natural healing mechanisms.  Carrie treats the whole patient, focusing on the cause of the illness; whether it is structural, nutritional, environmental or emotional.
