MYOTHERAPY

Bio

What is Myotherapy?

The word Myo is Latin for muscle, therefore Myotherapy = Muscle therapy.
Myotherapy treats muscle and soft tissue injuries that cause pain or affect movement.
Within its scope, Myotherapy works on preventing injuries and correcting & rehabilitating the soft tissue structures (muscle, tendons, ligaments & fascia) of the human body.

Depending on the particular problem, a qualified Myotherapist may use a combination of the following treatments:

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Cupping
  • Trigger point dry needling
  • Thermal therapies (heat and cold)
  • Electromechanical stimulation (TENS machine)
  • Myofascial stretching
  • Corrective and rehabilitative exercises

As a Myotherapist I treat the cause as well as the symptoms of a wide range of muscle or soft tissue conditions.

How can Myotherapy help you?

  • Relieves muscular tension, spasm and cramps.
  • Deactivates trigger points (knots in muscles) that cause local and referred pain.
  • Promotes healing by stretching soft tissue and increasing blood flow.
  • Increases joint flexibility and range of movement.
  • Enhances muscular function and strength.

Myotherapy during pregnancy

Pelvic instability is the biggest cause of low back and pelvic pain in pregnant women. Pelvic girdle pain (PGP) can be managed during pregnancy through Myotherapy treatments which include massage, stretching and specific stabilizing exercises.
I have specialized pregnancy cushions so that you will feel comfortable, supported and relaxed whilst lying on your stomach, right up until the birth of your baby.
(Cushions are kept at the Northcote clinic so please let me know in advance if you will need them at Carlton.)

Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers make a fantastic gift for those special occasions or simply as a creative thank-you.  They are available all year round for treatments ranging from 30 to 90 minutes and can be arranged over the phone in just minutes.

About Rachael

I completed the 3 year Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at RMIT University in 2003 and am a member of the Institute of Registered Myotherapists of Australia (IRMA).  Since that time, I have worked in clinical and corporate positions and with elite athletes from the Melbourne Storm Rugby Club.

I am a keen outdoors adventurer and regularly rock climb, mountain bike, hike and ski among other activities.
Accordingly, I too experience many aches and pains, especially following competitive events. I believe this gives me a better understanding and insight into the pain you are suffering and the best way to treat you.
